Paper mache is one of the most versatile art forms used in Mexico today. Artists create a variety of items, including piñatas, life-size figures, masks, alebrijes, and much more. The art of paper mache has been perfected by many Mexican artists and is truly one of the most enjoyable mediums to work with—sure, it can be messy, but it’s a lot of fun! In this workshop, children will learn to create their own paper mache monsters using materials such as paper, foil, wire, and plenty of glue. This is a fun and creative way to explore a new medium with items that can be sourced from home, providing your children with a skill they can continue to practice and perfect on their own! The workshop spans three days, with sessions lasting two hours each, as the paper mache needs time to dry fully. **Day 1:** Participants will be introduced to this new medium and guided to sketch their ideas for their little monsters. They will also begin the construction of their monsters. **Day 2:** Participants will continue to work on their monsters until completion. **Day 3:** Participants will learn to paint their fully dried paper mache monsters, giving them unique expressions and personalities.
